TAKE IT TO HEART
Bruce's first release, still sounds as wonderful today as it did six years ago. Each and every song fits together and falls into place like a warm breeze fanning the branches of a Palm Tree in the tropics. ARRIBA
A long-time favorite for his eloquent guitar instrumentals, Bruce came up with new-found inspiration in the flamenco style - hence his 1993 release Arriba. He retains the breezy, evocative feel which made Rhythm of Life, Forever Blue Sky, The Nature of Things and Take it to Heart so successful as he drifts off to distant lands vibrant with the flamenco spirit. His heart-stirring guitar combines with the melodious sax of Brandon Fields and Richard Hardy, carried along with a tasteful array of exotic percussion by Steve Reid. The ten selections, both solo and ensemble, include hints of classical, pop and reggae, as BecVar breathes passion and romance into every note. The trademark fluidity and melodic sense, which give Bruce a "naturally commercial sound," translate perfectly into this new style as he skillfully navigates the fine line between accessibility and authenticity. Arriba seems to get better and better with age, like a fine wine, and displays a joyful exuberance that is quite contagious for all who venture near.

JIVA MUKTI

On Nada Shakti's second release, Jiva Mukti, the angels soar and the earth moves under the enveloping sounds of multi-tracked voices and eloquent, often understated instrumentation. Several steps beyond her previous effort, Samadhi, this fine recording showcases the vocal gifts of this international artist, who offers many mystical Sanskrit mantras and chants through her spacious interpretations. "Jiva Mukti" means "liberated soul," and Shakti's voice is certainly set free, from soft and sensual to fully alive and celebratory. Backing music is provided by Bruce BecVar, who plays shakti harp, an instrument of his own creation, keyboards and acoustic percussion, as well as Daniel Paul on tablas (plays with Jai Uttal) & Satoshi Suzuki, who adds keyboards on 'Tathagata'. All in all, this exquisite release is bound to find a happy home in a variety of settings, appealing to the world music audience as well as all fans of spiritual & sacred sounds.
